GREEN NIGHT Interactive Seminar by Dr. Çağrı Özköse-Bıyık

GREEN NIGHT is a European Researchers’ Night project funded by the European Commission under HORIZON 2020 in the framework of the Marie Sklodowska Curie actions. GREEN NIGHT project is coordinated by Yaşar University; and Ege University, Izmir Institute of Technology, Izmir Katip Çelebi University and Izmir Provincial Directorate of National Education are partners in the project.

Within the scope of GREEN NIGHT, one of our esteemed faculty Dr. Çağrı Özköse-Bıyık gave a seminar entitled

“Dil Yeteneği Denen Şey Gerçekten Var mı?” (Is Language Aptitude Real?)

In her talk, Dr. Ozkose-Biyik shared information on the concept of language aptitude by looking at it from a socio-cultural perspective as opposed to the common conceptualizations based on cognitivist principles. In this sense, the answer to the title of her seminar was “no”; it is not something we bring at birth, but rather some potential we can develop with enough investment and exposure to the target language. The high school students who joined Dr. Ozkose-Biyik’s talk seemed to have enjoyed this interactive seminar.
